How to Use and Determine Your Spiritual Gifts

Writer's picture: Courtney FontenotCourtney Fontenot

Many of us love giving gifts to people. The joy of giving is something that is often expressed by the giver with a great expression of happiness as we see the receiver reciprocate that happiness back to us. There is just something about being able to give someone a blessing that I love.

As Christians, we hear a lot about spiritual gifts. How do we identify them and how do we use them once we do? I am here to tell you that we all have spiritual gifts. Some of us find them faster than others and that is okay. Just like we get excited about people opening and using the gifts that we give and we often get disappointed when we don’t see them use them, I believe that it does nothing short of the same for the Father!

What Are Spiritual Gifts?

In Psalms 139:13-14, we see the psalmist discuss that we are all individually handcrafted by the father but we also see the psalmist talk about our “works” plural. I interpreted this to mean that God equips us with multiple spiritual gifts, not just one. These spiritual gifts should be nurtured and should grow as we walk through ministry in our lifetimes.

Spiritual Gifts and the Church:

Romans 12:-8 talks about how we are one body through Christ, we do not all have the same function within the body, and we should use our gifts within the body and encourage those within the body to do the same. I believe that using our gifts in the church is a great thing, because without the use of our gifts, the church wouldn’t thrive. I thought about using our gifts outside of the church as well. God created us all with gifts for us to use to advance the Kingdom, and who are we to say that our gifts should only be used within the four walls of a building?

Thank you guys again for joining me on the blog today.

Happy Monday,
