Hello all!
This blog post is a little off the beaten path for us—we normally go for the editorial, narrative-style blog post. But sometimes everyone needs a good, list-of-verses post.
With Corona, with politics ramping up for November, with it being 2020 in general, it’s safe to say at one point or another you’ve had a rough go of it. We all know the world and everyone in it is broken and the hardships that emerge because of it.
Truth can get muddled when there’s a lot of voices in your ear, and whether you believe it or not, there are a lot of voices in your ear. The one single point of truth is the Word, and that can serve to be both comforting and discomforting at times.
For the purpose of this post, I thought it’d be helpful to list some bible verses that highlight ultimate truths.
*It’s important to note that these verses may not be altogether ‘comforting’. It’s really easy to want to run to comfort when we’re upset, but it’s my personal belief we as a nation place comfort as an idol. These verses aren’t to make you “feel good”, but to remind you of the truth that there is so much more to life than what you’re facing.*
Encouraging Bible verses
2 Corinthians 5:7 - “For we live by faith, not by sight.”
Romans 12:9-12 - “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
2 Corinthians 12:10 - “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Hebrews 10:23 - “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
Philippians 4:7 - “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Deuteronomy 3:16 - “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave or forsake you.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Matthew 11:28 - “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
1 John 3:18 - “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
And the last one, but certainly not the least!
John 8:31-32 - “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
This final verse is so comforting. We are free from earthly worries, burdens, theological debates, presidential elections, if you’ll outlive your dog, all of it. Jesus Christ himself has set you free, and that is the ultimate comfort.
Hallelujah.
